Most of us would probably have the old adage about drinking eight glasses of water a day imprinted in our minds by now, and for good reason – water plays an essential role in our daily functioning, from removing toxins to lubricating joints and organs, and keeping our skin smooth and supple. But as we are constantly losing water, it is crucial to replenish hydration.
Besides drinking water, another healthy and natural way to combat dehydration is to incorporate hydrating foods into your diet. What’s more, these foods are usually chock-full of beneficial nutrients, and their high water content also means that they can aid weight loss by promoting a sense of fullness, thus reducing appetite – now that’s what we call a win-win situation.

Did you know that the humble cucumber has one of the highest water contents of any solid food? Cucumbers are also known to have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, and contain Vitamin K, which helps with blood-clotting and bone-building.
Celery (Water content: 95%)
Don’t scrunch your face yet – its distinct taste may be a turn-off for some, but the health benefits of celery are impressive. A high amount of insoluble fibre found in celery supports a smooth, healthy digestive system. It contains alkaline minerals such as potassium, magnesium and sodium which help to neutralise the acidifying effect of processed foods. Celery is also said to aid in reducing bad cholesterol and lowering blood pressure.
